Love Food? – Book Recommendations

Do you love food? We love food and cooking it but most of all eating it! too!! How about some book recommendations?
You might have guessed from our Podcasts and our Twitter posts that food plays a really important part in our lives – particularly of course The Emergency Chicken, which is where this all started.

Em has a massive selection of cook books but has realised that really, you only need a few. What she really enjoys is looking at the pictures!
Cooking can be a really mindful and relaxing thing to do. Sharing food with those you love is a great way to stop and remember who you really want to spend time with.
If you don’t have any ideas about what books to try, here are a few from Em’s favourite cookery/food writers and chefs.
How to be a Domestic Goddess
Nigella Lawson
We love Nigella’s books but this is the firm favourite. Nigella loves food too! This book has the best Chocolate Mouse Cake recipe that must be made. If you think it looks complicated, don’t be put off. It isn’t and it is well worth it!!
Save with Jamie
Jamie Oliver
The first food programmes Em used to watch were the Naked Chef with Jamie Oliver. This is where she learnt how to cook. This book is great in the current cost of living crisis, with really good meals and saving ideas.
River Cottage – Love your Leftovers
Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall
We’ve learnt to use up the leftovers and (sometimes) we find that the leftovers are the best bits! This book gives you a few alternatives and good ideas of how to use up every scrap.
Cook and Share
Mary Berry
We became a fan of Mary Berry when she bought out this book! We’ve made proper family sized meals from the recipes in this book. We’ve also made the meals ahead and frozen them. The recipes work every time. You can also make some can be made in the Slow Cooker.
Make it Ahead
Ina Garten
If you’ve never heard of Ina Garten, you should find out about her! Ina is a food writer from The Hamptons in the USA. We found Ina on the Food Network. Ina makes food that is full of flavour but very simple.
