The Emergency Chicken

Some years ago, around the time that we were all waiting for the onset of blizzard conditions one winter, I was having my hair cut, chatting away with my lovely hairdresser. We were talking about the weather, how cold it was getting and wondering if the forecaster’s predictions of ice and freezing conditions causing doomsday would actually happen…..

The Tidal Wave that Never Came

Spring Season Blogs. The Tidal Wave that Never Came.

I got a text from a friend this week: ‘Last night I dreamt that you and I were trapped between two tidal waves’. I replied, asking if we had survived. ‘We absolutely did’….

Happiness is an Inside Job*

  1. How do you feel when you are happy?
  2. How do you feel when you are happy?
  3. What makes you happy?

The Queen Bee Syndrome

Spring Season Blogs. The Queen Bee Syndrome.

The world of work is a thoroughly confusing and mysterious place to be.  Particularly if you are female.  We women have fought many battles for many, many years.  What did we fight for? We had to fight for the vote.  Us women fought for control over our fertility.  We have fought for equal pay.  Generations of women have collectively banded together to fight for their rights and freedoms…..

Spring is Nature’s way of saying “Let’s Party!!!”

I am not a winter person.  My struggles with this begin every year, from the end of November to around the beginning of March.  First there is the dark.  I’m not a fan of the dark.  November brings the dark.  It is dark in the morning when you get up and it is dark in the evening when you get home.  Even during what is supposed to be daylight, it’s dark.

The Thief of Time

Spring Season Blogs. The Thief of Time.

I was with a friend this week, who told me a story.  She is a great gardener with truly green fingers that can pretty much grow everything.  Some time ago, she decided that she wanted to grow more of her own veg and a plan to do this that involved getting an allotment.  This was no easy feat as the village she lives in has a long waiting list.  But she put herself on that list and patiently waited, knowing her day would come.

One Space or Two?

At the risk of sounding like my mother, about thirty years or so ago, I learnt to type.  Now, just to clarify, what I mean by ‘type’ is being able to use more than two fingers.  There is no way you would get 100 words a minute out of me.  Sometimes, I can look away whilst typing and sometimes I can’t.  I also have a nasty habit of getting my ‘from’ and ‘form’ mixed up.

Winning at Life

Spring Season Blogs. Winning at Life.

Today I won at life.  Not massively.  Nothing miraculous happened.  I wouldn’t describe that afterwards I felt any form of unrequited joy.  It wasn’t that exciting.  I just felt a little bit better and slightly more content.
